Out The Window
I hear the birds welcoming the daylight
as the golden sun rises from the east.
The rays penetrate both yellow and bright
while I watch the blue jays fight and feast.
The robin and cardinal get their share
while hopping along in the flower bed.
With an intricate dance, they’re quite a pair,
their wings fluttering, in both grey and red.
My cats watch from the windows in awe,
their tongues lick their lips with thoughts of breakfast.
“Come” they say as they motion with their paws
but, the thought of a fowl meal does not last.
The lawn mower starts as the birds fly away.
It’s time for the humans to start the day.
